Shipping from China FAQ

Answers to common questions about quotes, transit times, customs, DDP, Amazon FBA and supply chain services when shipping from China.

Quotes & General

Contact us
What do you need for a shipping quotation?

Send the product name, package count, gross weight, packed dimensions, pickup location, destination and cargo-ready date. Include your delivery deadline and tell us about batteries, liquids or other special characteristics. If some details are missing, share what you have so we can identify what needs checking.

What charges should I check before booking?

Ask which origin handling, freight, destination handling, customs clearance, taxes and delivery charges are included. Confirm exclusions and any possible remote-area, storage, inspection or unloading charges. The quotation should define the service scope for your shipment.

What does a freight forwarder in China do?

A China freight forwarder organises the whole journey for you: pickup from your suppliers, export customs, booking space on ships or planes, documents, import customs at destination and delivery to your door or Amazon. You deal with one company instead of truckers, carriers and customs brokers separately.

How do I choose among freight forwarding companies in China?

Ask each one for a written door-to-door quote that lists what is included, check that they handle customs at both ends or offer DDP, and see how quickly and clearly they answer. JIEYI replies with a written quote within 2 hours and gives you one contact from pickup to delivery.

How much does shipping from China cost?

In November 2026, a 40ft container costs about $7,600–8,500 to the US West Coast and about $3,550–4,050 to the UK or Northern Europe. Air freight is about $4.5–8.5 per kg and express about $8–17 per kg, depending on the destination. Rates change weekly, so ask us for today’s price.

How long will my shipment take?

Door to door, sea freight takes about 25–35 days to the US West Coast and 40–55 days to the UK and Europe, rail to Europe about 25–40 days, air freight 5–10 days and express 3–7 days. We confirm the schedule for your route before you book.

Does DDP include customs clearance and taxes?

DDP means the seller takes responsibility for agreed delivery with import duties paid under the contract. Destination requirements and practical arrangements still need checking. Confirm clearance, taxes, importer arrangements, final delivery and exclusions in writing before booking.

Can you ship to Amazon FBA warehouses?

Yes. Send your Amazon shipment ID, destination warehouse code, carton count, weights and dimensions. We check labels and packing against Amazon’s requirements before the goods leave China.

Can you insure my cargo?

Yes. Cargo insurance can be arranged on request. Tell us the value of the goods when you ask for a quote and we will include the insurance cost and what it covers.

Can you arrange shipments containing batteries or liquids?

Acceptance depends on the product, transport mode, destination and applicable requirements. Send exact product details and available safety or transport documents first. We will assess feasibility; do not dispatch special cargo before acceptance is confirmed.

What documents will I need?

A commercial invoice and packing list are commonly required. Other documents depend on the goods, origin, destination and clearance requirements. Share the product description, declared value and consignee details so the shipment-specific document needs can be checked.

Can you arrange services beyond transport?

Yes. We can arrange supplier coordination, inspection, pickup, consolidation, storage, packing, labeling, clearance, delivery and returns handling. You can request only the stages you need. Available arrangements and responsibilities are confirmed for the goods and service locations.

Sea Freight

What is the difference between FCL and LCL?

FCL (Full Container Load) means you book a whole 20ft or 40ft container for your goods only. LCL (Less than Container Load) means your cartons or pallets share a container with other shippers and you pay for the volume you use, usually per cubic metre.

When is LCL cheaper than FCL?

As a rule of thumb, LCL is usually cheaper for shipments under about 13 CBM. Between about 13 and 28 CBM it depends on the route: a 20ft container is faster and avoids extra handling at consolidation warehouses, but LCL freight can stay cheaper on high-rate routes such as China to the USA. The break-even point changes with rates, so we compare both when your volume is close.

How long does sea freight from China take?

Port to port, typical sailing times from South China are about 14–20 days to the US West Coast or Vancouver, 30–40 days to the US East Coast and 35–45 days to the UK and northern Europe. Allow roughly one to two more weeks for pickup, customs and final delivery. Schedules change, so we confirm the timing for your booking.

Which ports in China do you ship from?

Most cargo collected around Dongguan leaves from Yantian, Shekou or Nansha. If your suppliers are elsewhere, tell us their locations and we will advise the most suitable port of loading.

What charges are included in a sea freight quote?

A door-to-door quote can include pickup in China, export customs, origin port charges, ocean freight, destination terminal charges, import clearance, duties and taxes (if DDP) and final delivery. Always check which of these are included and which are excluded before you book.

Can you combine goods from several suppliers into one container?

Yes. We collect from each supplier, check the cartons against your packing list, and load everything into one shared or full container so you pay for one international shipment.

What documents are needed for sea freight?

Usually a commercial invoice, packing list and the bill of lading, which we arrange. The USA also requires an ISF (Importer Security Filing) before the container is loaded, and EU and UK importers need an EORI number. We tell you exactly what is needed for your route.

How much does it cost to ship a container from China?

In November 2026, the ocean freight for a 40ft container from South China is about $7,600–8,500 to the US West Coast, $9,700–11,000 to the US East Coast and $3,550–4,050 to the UK. A 20ft container to the UK or northern Europe is about $2,100–2,600. Rates change weekly, so send your details and we reply with today’s price within 2 hours.

Is sea freight cheaper than air freight from China?

Usually, yes. In November 2026, air freight to the USA costs about $6.8–8.5 per kg, while LCL sea freight costs about $120–150 per cubic metre, and one cubic metre of goods often weighs a few hundred kilograms. The trade-off is time: about 25–45 days door to door by sea, compared with 5–10 days by air. For small, urgent or high-value orders, air or express can still be the better choice.

Should I insure my sea freight shipment?

It is strongly recommended. Carrier liability for lost or damaged cargo is limited and rarely covers the full value of your goods. Cargo insurance can be arranged on request based on the invoice value.

Air Freight

View service
How long does air freight from China take?

Airport to airport usually takes about 2–5 days. Door to door, including pickup, customs and delivery, allow about 5–10 days to the USA, Canada, the UK and Europe.

How much does air freight from China to the USA cost per kg?

In November 2026, about $6.8–8.5 per kg for 100 kg or more from South China to the main US airports, and door to door in about 5–8 days. Pickup, customs, duties and delivery are added unless you ship DDP. Rates change weekly, so ask us for today’s rate.

How much is air freight from China to the UK?

In November 2026, about $4.5–6.5 per kg for 100 kg or more to London or Manchester, door to door in about 5–8 days. UK VAT and duty are added unless you ship DDP.

How is air freight priced?

By chargeable weight: the greater of the actual gross weight and the volumetric weight (length × width × height in cm ÷ 6000 for each carton). The rate per kg is lower for larger shipments.

When is air freight cheaper than express?

Usually from about 100 kg upwards. Below that, express courier rates are often similar or lower and include door delivery, so we compare both for you.

Can you ship products with batteries by air?

Often, yes, but it depends on the battery type and how it is packed. We need the MSDS and UN38.3 test report before booking; some products can only go by sea.

Do you offer door-to-door and DDP air freight?

Yes. We can deliver to the destination airport, to your door, or to an Amazon fulfilment centre, and include duties and taxes under DDP.

Which airports do you ship from?

Most shipments from South China leave from Shenzhen, Guangzhou or Hong Kong. We choose the airport with the best schedule and rate for your shipment.

How long does express shipping from China take?

Usually about 3–7 days door to door to the USA, Canada, the UK and Europe after pickup. Remote areas and customs checks can add a few days.

How is express shipping priced?

By chargeable weight: the greater of actual weight and volumetric weight (length × width × height in cm ÷ 5000). Bulky light boxes are therefore charged by size.

When should I use air freight instead of express?

From about 100 kg, air freight is usually cheaper per kilo. Express is best for samples, documents and small parcels that need door delivery fast.

Who pays duties and taxes on express parcels?

Unless the shipment is sent DDP, the receiver normally pays duties, taxes and a handling fee to the courier before delivery. With DDP these are included in our price.

Can you consolidate parcels from several suppliers?

Yes. We collect parcels from different suppliers, combine them and send them as one shipment, which usually costs less than separate parcels.

How much does express shipping from China to the USA cost?

In November 2026, about $12–16 per kg of chargeable weight, door to door in about 3–6 days. Very small parcels cost more per kg, so send the weight and box size for an exact price.

Can you collect samples from several suppliers or the Canton Fair?

Yes. We collect samples from your suppliers, or from the fair, check them and send them to you together in one express parcel.

Can I send products with batteries by express?

Some can, with the right documents and packing, and some cannot. Send the product details first and we will check which service accepts them.

Rail & Road

View service
How long does rail freight from China to Europe take?

Terminal to terminal usually about 14–25 days depending on the destination. Door to door, allow about 25–35 days to Germany and 30–40 days to the UK, including trucking and customs.

Is rail freight cheaper than air freight?

Yes, usually much cheaper per kilo, while being two to three weeks faster than sea freight to most European destinations.

How much does rail freight from China to Europe cost?

In November 2026, a 40ft container by rail to Duisburg or Małaszewicze costs about $4,600–6,600, and LCL about $170–220 per cubic metre. That is more than sea freight but far less than air. Prices change with the departure terminal, the destination and the space on each train, so we reply with today’s rail price within 2 hours.

Is rail faster than sea freight from China to Europe?

Yes. Door to door, rail usually takes about 25–35 days to Germany, compared with about 40–55 days by sea, so it saves two to three weeks.

Can I ship LCL by rail?

Yes. Smaller shipments can share a rail container and are charged by volume or weight, so you do not need a full container.

Can you deliver by rail to the UK?

Yes. Cargo travels by rail to a terminal in the EU and then by truck across the Channel to your UK address, with UK customs clearance.

What goods cannot be shipped by rail?

Most dangerous goods, many products with lithium batteries and some high-value or temperature-sensitive goods are restricted. Send product details and we will check before booking.

Which route does the train take?

Several corridors connect China and Europe through Central Asia and Eastern Europe. We confirm the routing, transit time and insurance conditions for your cargo when you book.

DDP Shipping

View service
What does DDP mean in shipping?

DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) is an Incoterms rule under which the seller side pays all transport costs, import customs clearance, duties and taxes, and delivers the goods to the buyer’s address. The buyer has nothing more to pay on arrival.

What is the difference between DDP and DAP?

Both deliver to your address. Under DAP you, the buyer, clear the goods through import customs and pay duties and taxes. Under DDP these are included in the price, so the goods arrive cleared and ready to unload.

Is DDP more expensive than other terms?

The quote looks higher because duties and taxes are included, but the total landed cost is often similar. DDP removes the risk of unexpected charges, customs delays and broker fees on arrival.

Can I ship DDP to Amazon FBA?

Yes. Amazon does not act as importer of record, so DDP is a common way to ship stock to fulfilment centres. We clear customs, pay duties and book the delivery appointment.

Do I still need an importer number with DDP?

It depends on the country. For the UK and the EU an EORI number is usually needed for the import declaration, and VAT-registered businesses may want the import VAT in their own name to reclaim it. We confirm what is required for your destination.

How are duties calculated in a DDP quote?

Duties are based on each product’s HS code, its declared value and the destination’s current tariff rules, plus VAT or sales taxes where they apply. Accurate product descriptions and values are needed for a reliable price.

How much does DDP shipping from China cost?

A DDP price has four parts: the freight from China, customs clearance, the duties and taxes for your products, and delivery to the final address. The freight is the same as for a normal shipment, while duties depend on each product’s HS code and value, so we send an itemised DDP quote for your goods within 2 hours of receiving the details.

Can you ship DDP from China to the USA with the 2026 tariffs?

Yes. The extra US tariffs on Chinese goods are included in the duty calculation for each product, so the DDP quote covers them. Because tariff rates change often, we confirm the current rates when we quote.

Amazon FBA

View service
Can you ship directly from my Chinese suppliers to Amazon FBA?

Yes. We collect from each supplier, check labels and cartons, consolidate the goods and deliver them to the Amazon fulfilment centres on your shipment plan, with customs cleared and duties paid.

Which Amazon marketplaces do you ship to?

We ship to Amazon fulfilment centres in the USA, Canada, the UK and the EU, including Germany. Tell us the marketplace and the destination fulfilment centre codes with your inquiry.

Can you label my products with FNSKU barcodes in China?

Yes. Send us your FNSKU and FBA box labels from Seller Central and we can apply them before export, so the goods arrive ready to be received.

Who is the importer of record for FBA shipments?

Amazon does not act as importer of record. With our DDP service we arrange customs clearance and pay duties and taxes for you; for some destinations you may also need your own importer number, such as an EORI for the UK and EU.

What is the cheapest way to ship to Amazon FBA from China?

Sea freight is the cheapest per unit for main stock. Many sellers send a small first batch by air or express to start selling, then restock by sea or, for Europe, by rail.

How much does shipping from China to Amazon FBA cost?

In November 2026, the main freight from South China is about $120–150 per cubic metre by sea (LCL) to the USA and $60–90 to the UK, about $6.8–8.5 per kg by air to the USA and $4.5–6.5 to the UK, and about $12–16 per kg by express to the USA. Duties and delivery to the Amazon warehouse depend on the product and the fulfilment centre, so we send an itemised quote within 2 hours.

How long does FBA shipping from China take?

Door to the fulfilment centre, sea freight usually takes about 25–45 days to the USA and 40–60 days to the UK and EU, air freight about 7–12 days and express 4–8 days. Amazon’s own receiving time comes on top.

Supply Chain

View service
Can I request only part of the supply chain?

Yes. Tell us which stages you need help with and what is already arranged. We quote a defined scope, for example only pickup and consolidation, instead of assuming you need every stage.

Can you collect from several suppliers and ship together?

Yes. Send each supplier’s address, contact and goods-ready date. We collect the goods, check quantities and cartons against your order, and combine them into one sea, rail, air or express shipment.

How long can you store my goods?

Short-term storage is available while orders from different suppliers come together. Tell us the expected volume and how long you need, and we confirm the storage terms and any charges in the quote.

What does an inspection include?

We check what you ask us to check, such as quantities, carton marks, labels, packing condition and loading. The checklist is agreed before the inspection and the results are shared with you before the goods ship.

Can you repack, palletise or label my goods?

Yes. We can repack, palletise, apply carton marks, FNSKU or other labels to your specification. Send the label files and packing instructions, and we confirm the work and cost before starting.

Do you handle returns and re-routing?

Yes. Goods that need to come back to China, return to a supplier or be sent to a new address can be collected and re-routed. Share the location, quantity and reason so we can check the options.
